A Love Letter to Trans People Everywhere
Carrying the legacy of Sam Nordquist and Tahiry Brown into the future
On February 22nd, 2025, I stood inside The Church of the Village, surrounded by community and chosen family who gathered to honor Sam Nordquist and Tahiry Broom, two fierce community members whose lives were dedicated to justice, love, and liberation. Their work, their impact, and their spirits continue through us.
Grief and remembrance are heavy, but they are also a form of resistance. We weren’t just there to mourn; we were there to affirm that their lives mattered, that their legacies endure, and that we will keep showing up for each other. It was a space of love, resilience, and community—a reminder that remembering isn’t just about looking back, but about moving forward with intention.
During the gathering, alongside other community leaders, Reverend Yunus Coldman shared words that captured the essence of our collective grief and determination. His message was a call to continue the work, to love fiercely, and to hold each other close.
I had the honor of capturing his words:
We keep moving forward. We keep fighting. We keep remembering. Rest in power, Sam Nordquist and Tahiry Brown.
Your light remains with us.
Sam's story was absolutely heartbreaking
