A Message for Transgender Americans
Featuring the debut of the Freedom to Be quilt in Washington D.C.
On May 17th, 2025, I was invited by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) to witness the debut of the Freedom to Be quilt. I had taken part in their Freedom to Be campaign last year, at a time when my face was still healing from the facial masculinization surgery I had just a few months earlier.
Despite how self-conscious I felt, I decided to participate in the shoot anyway.
While I was at the event, I captured the inspiring words of Raquel Willis:
I left D.C. that day with my heart full and my soul ready to take on Pride Month, which was waiting around the corner. She was right—we deserve more. We shouldn’t settle.
At the end of the day, we envision universal healthcare for all.
It was such a beautiful event! My daughter and I were there. The speakers were so inspiring. What a great time!
